Hai, i here-by share my experience that I had with my laptop.
Recently I bought a "HP COMPAQ" laptop. The OS they gave with the laptop is "Mandrake Linux". But the vendor installed "Microsoft Windows XP" in laptop without my attention.
Since I was new to "Linux", I continued my work with "Microsoft Windows XP". Later I got internet broadband connection. First I connected my laptop with the external modem via USB port. It worked fine for me.
Later I connected my laptop with the external modem via ethernet port. Here bobbed up a problem for me. When I touched the touchpad of my laptop, the mouse-cursor moved in an un-controlled manner. I.e. I am not able to bring the cursor under my control using the touchpad.
Since I am not aware of such problems, I thought that there might be some problems with the modem given by the internet service provider.
So I contacted my internet service provider regarding this. They asked about my Laptop company name. I said them that I am using "HP COMPAQ". Hearing the company name they said there are such problems with "HP COMPAQ" laptops and they have encountered such problems in many places.
But I am not convinced with their reply. So I searched the internet regarding this problem. And I came to know that my touchpad is not configured with the right driver. Initially the touchpad was working with the default mouse driver :(.
Then I configured my touchpad with the appropriate driver. Now the mouse-cursor is under control with the touchpad while connecting the laptop with the external modem through ethernet port.
I think this might be useful for those who read this :-).
